“One morning a gentleman followed me upstairs. I asked him, ‘Have you had
enough? Are you ready?’ He answered, ‘Everybody knows what’s going on up
here — that’s why I came to see you. I’ve had enough and I’m ready.’
Ninety days later he had completed a local drug and alcohol treament
program, started volunteering at the soup kitchen, and within a short
period of time he had a full-time job and saved enough to get a little
place for himself.”

 I-HELP (Interfaith
Homeless Emergency Lodging Program) offers single men shelter, food, and
support though the gracious, generous, and continued support of over 60
Monterey County churches, synagogues, temples, and religious organizations.
I-HELP operates one program in Salinas and one on the Peninsula.
- Shelter Outreach Plus and area churches,
synagogues, temples, and religious organizations cooperate to provide
homeless men with hope and opportunity for a better lifestyle by
offering nightly shelter, a hot meal, and support. Each evening, the
I-HELP vans transport the men from central pick-up points in Salinas
and Monterey to a host church where they spend the night. By day,
I-HELP includes job placement and housing assistance, clothing,
support and referrals.
- I-HELP has never
missed a night of offering services for the homeless in its 15 years
of operation.
